Great to have another Malatang brand in Tampines! They have a great variety of ingredients, and their mala soup base is cooked with cow bones. They also have a condiments section with sufficient sauces, spring onion, and parsley (coriander is under the vegetable selection).
However, they do not serve white rice or provide ice for cold drinks. Also, it seems they didn't separate some of the sliced meat during cooking, as some of the meat became a lump.
"Can greatly improve the ventilation and cleanliness of the outlet. Houseflies were flying around, and the tables were not clean. Staff were everywhere, but none were contributing to the cleanliness of the outlet."
I ordered the bee hoon, and it tasted terrible. It was salty and all mashed together. The fried chicken smelled bad on the first bite. There was also a long wait time. This is not a recommended place.
The coffee here isn't nice. I'm a Toast Box kopi fan, but the best one is still at Compass One. Other outlets like this one are not up to standard. The coffee tastes diluted. The eggs are raw. You have to climb stairs after getting your drinks, which is super risky – you might fall and spill.
Shared the set, which comes with curry chicken and rice, a hot beverage, and kaya butter toast. The curry was thick and satisfying, although a little spicy for me. The store was also very generous with the amount of butter in the toast. Everything was good, save for a small bird that flew into the dining area, which caused a tiny commotion.
Located across from the MRT, near BreadTalk.
I had to line up. I expected to receive the food and drink together, but I had to go up a short flight of stairs to get the food after receiving my drink. This made the waiting time feel longer than expected.
The toast and bread are good, but the rice is a bit spicy for kids. You can choose any drink for the set menu, but there may be an upcharge depending on the drink. As this was my first visit to Toast Box, I have no basis for comparison with other locations.
Ordered the Bak Kwa Fried Rice set, which comes with a beverage and a piece of cake. This is the second time I've tried this fried rice, and I love the cubes of Bak Kwa in it. I also tried the Bak Kwa Ong Lai Cheese thick toast, and the cheese goes well with the bak kwa. I could smell the cheese from far away while I was on my way to collect it. It's a tasty combination of bak kwa and cheese. This Bak Kwa series is only available during Lunar New Year, so it's a must-try.
