Senior Resident Physician / Senior Staff Physician (SACH - Inpatient)

Job Summary

• Provide a high standard of medical care and be part of the teaching faculty of the hospital.

Clinical Duties

• Carry out daily clinical rounds, clinics or home visits in assigned area/s by reviewing patients’ condition and ordering treatment and investigations as required.
• Attend to new admissions or referrals by reviewing patients’ referral notes, taking a comprehensive medical history or performing physical examinations and interviewing family members (as appropriate)
• Carry out rounds, when necessary, with visiting consultants and to consider/carry out their recommendations.
• Supervise and, if necessary perform clinical procedures e.g. suturing, venepuncture, setting up IV, catheterization.
• Participate in Patient Care Conferences (also known as multidisciplinary meetings), contributing to the care and/or discharge plans of patients. This may include screening and referring patients to other services such as senior care centers, day rehabilitation centre, Home Nursing Services and/or Home Medical Services.
• Participate in Morbidity and Mortality Rounds.
• Attend to emergencies in the assigned areas
• Assist in the investigation and root cause analysis of adverse events that take place in assigned area of care.
• Do exit rounds (for in-patient settings) and to hand over to the doctor on-call
• Perform first-line sleep-in duties (for in-patient settings) or stay-out calls as scheduled.

Supervisory Duties

• Supervise and guide junior doctors in respective area.

Teaching and Administrative duties

• Ensure, or work with the staff in-charge, to update clinical protocols in timely manner.
• Be part of teaching faculty of the organization.
• Be part of clinical work groups / committees such as Quality Assurance Committees, Quality Improvement teams and other work-related committees or workgroups.
• Participate in research work as deemed helpful to the advancement of patient care.

Secondary Duties

• Cover the duties of the other doctors during their leave.
• Assume administrative responsibilities as directed by the Head of Department.
• Participate in external committee work, project(s) as directed by the Head of Department from time to time.

Qualification

• Medical degree that is recognized by the Singapore Medical Council, with relevant post-graduate training in relevant disciplines such as Internal, Rehabilitation, Geriatric, Palliative and Family Medicine.
• A minimum of 8 years post qualification experience.
• Has experience and passion in family medicine, geriatric medicine, rehabilitation medicine and palliative medicine. Is a person of integrity, highly motivated and able to maintain good interpersonal relationships and work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.
